Service

 

For students who are blind or visually impaired the ASBUS project offers following services:

1. Support by the ASBUS team: House-hunting, establishing contacts to university lecturers, preparation of study material, access to other offers of the university (sport, music, other leisure activities), study abroad, etc.

2. Provision of TANIA systems (Tactile Acoustical Navigation and Information Assistant).

3. Integration of augmented information in the TANIA system, relevant to the academic studies and to the individual academic everyday life, such as office hours, schedules of public transportation on the way to the university, etc.

Following technical aids can be provided:

1. Portable Braille displays which can be combined with the TANIA system:

  • Braillenavigator (16 Braille modules with ATC-Technology, by Handy Tech Elektronik GmbH)
  • Conny (12 Braille modules, by Baum Retec AG)
  • Esys12 (12 Braille modules, by Eurobraille)
  • VarioConnect 24 (24 Braille modules, by Baum Retec AG)

2. Screenreader:

  • Jaws (by Freedom Scientific)
  • Window-Eyes (by GW Micro)

3. Braille printer:

  • Max Embosser (by ViewPlus Technologies)

4. Graphical pin display:

  • Display with 7200 pins and interactive localization of the reading fingers (by Metec-AG)

On demand other technical aids can be ordered e.g., magnifiers or special software.
